Extended Metaphor Poem
After choosing a controversial subject or issue that you feel a personal connection towards (see category list on the website for ideas), brainstorm images and physical items that are associated with your topic. Once you have created a sizable list, choose an unusual image and write a protest poem using your image in an extended metaphor format. For example, you have picked war as your subject and your image is a television someone has left out on the curb. Allow the details of the metaphor-image to inform your thoughts and direct the poem into unforeseen territory. Poem must be at least 200 words.
